Important Reminder:
We will send home graded/completed work on Wednesdays. There will be a green sheet for you to sign weekly showing that you have seen (and removed) all of their work. Forms from the office will also be included. Students have labeled the front pocket in their binder "Take Home".
Reading: This week we will finish our Unit on Early American Civilizations. We wrap up reading about the Inca civilization. We will discuss the rise and fall of this particular group and factors that led to them becoming to the largest pre-columbian civilization. Toward the end of the week, we will compare and contrast Maya, Aztec and Inca creation myths.
Grammar: Action verbs vs. linking verbs
Morphology: Latin root tract meaning "to pull or draw" (We did learn this last year, so this is review but also great practice using context and morphology to determine the meaning of words.)
Writing: We will spend a lot of time this week working on our Codex projects. Students may need to work on drafting or typing their paragraphs on their own time depending on how well they utilize their in-class time. See the slides below that show the inspiration for the project, as well as student work samples. I will provide the brown paper bag for them to glue their images and paragraphs on to.
Students have chosen their topic (farming, architecture, or social classes) and have been taking notes and drafting paragraphs about that topic for each civilization we have learned about.
Homework: Codex project due Tuesday, Nov. 5th
**Unit 2: Ancient American Civilizations Assessment will be on Wednesday, Nov. 6th
With Halloween happening this week, it will be best to wait until next week and this will give us plenty of time to review the skills we have learned during this unit. I will NOT be giving the content assessment for this unit, I would like to focus more on assessing the reading skills we have been working on developing. I will send home information to review later this week. This will mainly cover grammar and morphology skills we covered.
Math: Mrs. Bennett

This week, students will evaluate the rights, roles, responsibilities and limitations of the concept of citizen in Classical Greece and Rome. We will read different excerpts and short videos about Classical Greece and Rome. Students will then be divided into small groups and assigned a "citizen" role to act out. Each group will share their perspectives and discuss the following:
Who had more rights and responsibilities?
How would it feel to be excluded from citizenship?
On Monday, students went to the Church to reflect and pray on a Daily Prayer Plan. We are focusing on vocal and mental types of prayers. Be sure to ask your child to see their plan.
