Students participating will be part of a recognized organization that provides support services to its students in foreign countries.
No more than six (6) students will be considered for placement at West Springfield High School, so as to maximize the delivery of support from our faculty, staff and students.
In order to be considered for admission to West Springfield High School, foreign exchange students must be in possession of a J-1 Visa, which requires that the student return to his or her home country, and cannot apply to American colleges or universities after the completion of the exchange year.
A request for placement of a specific foreign exchange student must be made to the West Springfield High School by May 15th of the school year prior to the desired placement year. Credentials must be made available for examination by the Principal of West Springfield High School prior to this date.
Assurance from the Principal that adequate space is available and the presence of the applicant(s) will not cause undue inconvenience to the West Springfield students and teachers shall be necessary for acceptance.
An applicant must present, as part of his/her credentials, a transcript of grades outlining his/her high school career.
There must be assurance from the sponsoring agency that appropriate housing has been secured for the applicant; that the applicant is of good moral character and has the aptitude to be academically successful; acknowledgment of possible contributions that the applicant may make to West Springfield High School and the community of West Springfield.
In addition, there shall be assurance from the host family that they agree to all the terms and conditions of the sponsoring agency; and the sponsoring organization shall provide such other data and information as will assist the West Springfield School District in the decision making process.
