STAFF CONDUCT

All staff members have a responsibility to familiarize themselves and abide by all laws and regulations of the State as these affect their work, the policies of the School Committee, and the procedures designed to implement them.

In the area of personal conduct, the School Committee expects that staff members will conduct themselves in a manner that nor only reflects credit to the school system but also sets forth a model worthy of emulation by students.

All staff members will be expected to carry out their assigned responsibilities with conscientious concern.

Essential to the success of ongoing school operations and the instructional program are the following specific responsibilities, which will be required of all personnel.

The responsibilities of all personnel include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Appropriate professional attire.
  2. Faithfulness and promptness in attendance at work.
  3. Support and enforce policies of the School Committee and their implementing procedures, and school rules in regard to students.
  4. Diligence in submitting required reports promptly at the times specified.
  5. Care and protection and return of school property.
  6. Reporting of all observed or suspected incidents of bullying to administration or the appropriate legal authority. Staff members shall not engage in bullying of students or other staff members.
  7. Protecting the safety and welfare of students, which includes ensuring there is appropriate supervision at all times.
  8. Concern for and attention to their own and the school system's legal responsibility for the safety and welfare of students, including the need to ensure that students are under their supervision at all times.
  9. Maintaining a professional and appropriate relationship with students and staff.
  10. Gambling, consumption of alcoholic beverages, and the use of controlled substances on school grounds are strictly prohibited.
  11. The use of tobacco or vaping products within school buildings, school facilities, school grounds or on school buses is prohibited.

Employees who violate this policy will subject themselves to disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
