STUDENT POLICY GOALS
This policy statement regarding admission, attendance, and disciplinary standards in the West Springfield Public Schools, embodies the philosophy of the school committee as the interpreter of community standards and expectations.
Intended as a guideline for parents and teachers as well as the pupils in our schools, the policy is based on recognition of the responsibility each person has in fostering the physical, moral, and intellectual growth of each child. Parents must be accountable for the care of their children; teachers must be concerned for the standards—intellectual and behavioral—of the students in their classrooms; pupils must grow in understanding of their responsibility for themselves.
A discipline policy can never be successful without the support and cooperation of the parents. Good education must include the proposition that. all students learn as early as possible that they shall always be held accountable for their actions.
Every teacher has a right to teach without disruption. Every student has a right to learn without disruption. No student will be allowed to deny others these rights.
Working together, the family and the school can ensure the conditions in which our children can learn and grow to be responsible adults.
