FUNDING PROPOSALS AND APPLICATIONS

The School Committee will encourage the administration to seek and secure possible sources of state, federal, and other special funds that will enhance the educational opportunities for the children in our schools, and that are consistent with the mission and goals of the West Springfield Public Schools as expressed in School Committee policy and in guidance issued by the Superintendent.

The Superintendent will keep informed of possible funds available to the school system under the various state and federal programs, and in what manner these funds can best be used in the school system.

The Superintendent will be responsible for seeking out and coordinating the development of proposals for all specially funded projects. The Superintendent shall provide prior notice to the School Committee of his/her intent to submit a proposal for any such specially funded discretionary (not entitlement) project which seeks funds of $500,000 or more or which binds the district to future financial obligations. School Committee approval shall be required prior to the submittal to the funding source of any proposal which seeks funds of $1 million or more or which binds the district to future financial obligations.

The Superintendent is authorized to sign all reports for these projects and will be responsible for the proper expenditure of funds received for such projects.
