GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

It is the responsibility of each student to see that he or she fulfills all the requirements for graduation.

One hundred and fifteen credits (115) will be required for graduation.

Students must carry a full schedule. The principal may exempt a student from a full schedule due to unusual or extenuating circumstances. In grade 12, fifteen (15) credits must be earned even if the student’s total credits exceed the number of credits needed for graduation. The high school principal may exempt a senior from this fifteen (15) credit requirement if there are unusual circumstances which are beyond the control of the student.

PLEASE NOTE: Students new to the United States must be in attendance for at least two years and meet all graduation requirements in order to be eligible to receive a West Springfield High School diploma.

A STUDENT MUST:

1. Pass four years of English. Courses which fulfill the English requirement are delineated in the program of studies

2. Pass two semesters of Physical Education and one semester of Health Education during grade 9 or 10.

3. Pass two semesters of Physical Education and one semester of Health Education during grade 11 or 12.

4. Pass Modern World History and the equivalent of two full years of U.S. History.

5. Pass three full years of Science courses including Biology.*

6. Pass three full years of Mathematics courses.

* Beginning with the class of 2010, all other students must pass two full-year Science courses including Biology. Students entering grade 9 having completed Algebra 1, will have to pass Geometry and two additional mathematics courses. All other students entering grade 9 will have to pass an Algebra class, a Geometry class, and one additional mathematics course.
