Definition:As a methodology conceptual photography is a type of photography that is staged to represent an idea. The 'concept' is both preconceived and, if successful, understandable in the completed image. Wikipedia
Both works by Kirsty Mitchell from her Wonderland Series
What kind of story do you want to share through your photography? What do you want to communicate to your viewer? What do you feel strongly about? Is there something you have been through or you have watched others struggle with? Is there a social issue you want to bring to the viewer's attention? Is there a feeling from a dream you want to express? These are the types of questions you want to think about as you are working through this assignment. We will take a look at the work of Kirsty Mitchell.

Assignment:
Your assignment is to shoot 24 plus images that convey an idea. Visually interpret that idea through your camera. Think about the props you will need. If you need a model should it be a child, woman, man or senior citizen? Maybe an animal, what kind of animal? What is happening in the background and what kind of lighting do you need? Everything that is in the image is necessary to the communication of the idea.
You will have one week to work this idea out. You may shoot the assignment using film or digital or both.
Failing to plan is planning to fail. Study other ideas to get the creative juices flowing. I am providing a number of websites and examples to help you. You may use Photoshop or another editing system to help change the images to convey the message. Straight unaltered images are fine too. You are the artist, tell us what you want us to know, how do you want us to feel when we look at the images?
