During this unit we will be studying the work of painter Chuck Close. His early work was created in the photo realism genre. We will learn about his life, work and philosophy on art.
Assignment:
Students will create a portrait using the Chuck Close style of making a grid of themselves or someone they now personally. The portrait will be created from a photo taken in class using our lighting system and backdrop. Students will complete a 20x25 inch final charcoal portrait on white folio paper.
Learning Targets:
Students will learn how to use a grid to create realistic facial features and proper proportions of the face.
Students will learn Subtractive and additive techniques in charcoal.
Students will continue to build on their observational drawing skills.
