Equity Sticks

Also called "Pick-a-stick" or "Popsicle Sticks" - This is a participation strategy:

Teacher asks a question, pauses, and then pulls a students name. After that student response, the teacher removes their name from the pile. This introduces randomness, reduces teacher bias, distributes participation, and gives every student the feeling that they could be called on at anytime.

Possible limitation: If you have called on someone and removed their stick, they may become less engaged knowing they won't be called on again. Combine with other strategies to address this.
