Once the hiring decision is made, submit the "Hiring Proposal" through the PeopleAdmin system. The hiring proposal includes a draft letter of offer (click here for the template). Once that is approved, then you may make the offer to the candidate. If they accept, then update the status on the hiring proposal, print out the letter of offer and position description, then route those documents through the signature process with a copy to the Dean's Office.

Classified Salary Policy (aka "At what step can I hire my candidate of choice?")
"The trial service period is recognized as an extension of the selection process and is the time immediately following appointment. Trial service is six (6) full months for employees at .50 FTE or greater and nine (9) months for part-time employees at less than .50 FTE" (SEIU Contract, Article 34, Section 2, page 52).
Best practice recommendation: a performance evaluation as the employee approaches the end of the trial service is a good way to document whether they have performed in a way that meets expectations, or whether their employment should end prior to the completion of the trial service period.
