Objective: Students will be able to express an understanding of the perspectives of various major factions of World War I and demonstrate the important role that the Treaty of Versailles had in leading to World War 2 by recreating the process in which the Treaty of Versailles was created through group and class discussions, and by evaluating the effectiveness of this new treaty in preventing World War 2

The Treaty of Versailles both ended World War I and caused World War II. Historically, this treaty was an utter failure. For this lesson, you will need to create a new treaty that you think will make all countries involved happy.
- Note: this is a makeup assignment.
- Start by reading this handout on the perspectives of the nations going into the Treaty of Versailles
- Fill out the first page of of this worksheet based off what you learned from the above reading.
- Next, create the NEW Treaty of Versailles by filling out pages 2-3 of the worksheet.
- Finally, compare your NEW treaty to this HISTORIC Treaty of Versailles. Identify similarities and differences between your treaty and the HISTORIC treaty. Knowing that the HISTORIC treaty was a failure, do you think that your NEW treaty will succeed? (In other words, if your treaty is similar to to the historic treaty, it will likely fail). Answer this question on page 4 of the worksheet in paragraph format.
