1.12: Argumentative Essay Workshop

  • Objective:
    1. Students will demonstrate that they have a skills to write an argumentative paper based on research by conducting research, brainstorming for a paper, and completing a five paragraph essay based on a topic covered in this class.
    2. Students will demonstrate that they understand the nuances of a topic discussed in class by writing a five paragraph essay.

Directions:

  1. Choose a topic:
    • Review the possible topics for this paper by referring to the instructions passed out for the essay you are working on. It should be one of the following:
    • Choose two topics, and come up with 3 research questions (questions you will answer through your research) for each (see the last page of the worksheet)
  2. Review the expectations for this project:
  3. Conduct research for your topic. I recommend using the following cites from ABC Clio. The user name and password are both "arborstudent"
  4. Brainstorm for your essay by completing this Essay Brainstorm worksheet.
    • If you do not like the above worksheet, speak to me before using an alternative method
  5. When you are ready to type up your essay, go to classroom.google.com and look for the essay template that should be posted. Use that template to write your paper. Do not create a new Google Docs page.
