Directions:

  • Click on the following link to watch a video that explains the Agricultural Revolution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhzQFIZuNFY&feature=youtu.be
  • Open the following article (make sure you read the directions below before you start reading): Article (abridged) - Jared Diamond, The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race.pdf
  • Get a copy of the following worksheet: Worksheet - Was the Agricultural Revolution Good or Bad?.pdf.
    • NOTE: Two copies of the worksheet appear on each page - you only need to complete one.
  • Read the first paragraph of the article, and identify its thesis statement. Write that thesis somewhere on the front of the worksheet (sorry, I didn't create a space for it).
  • Read the rest of the article. You will need to fill out the graphic organizer on the worksheet (Pros VS Cons) as you read. You may add your own Pros and Cons (those not found in the article) if you like.
  • When you finish reading the article, and you have filled out the graphic organizer on the front of the handout, turn the handout to the back. Write an argumentative paragraph taking a position regarding whether the Agricultural Revolution was good or bad. Be sure to include a claim, at least 3 evidence statements, and at least one reasoning statement (this means a minimum of 5 sentences).
  • When you finish the worksheet, turn it in for a grade.
