On the good ship lollipop, it’s trip to the candyshop! Turtle In Paradise is a historical fiction book written by Jennifer Holm, who is a three-time “Newbery Honor Winning Author”. Her book has also won a “Newbery Honor Book Award”. It doesn’t have any pictures though.
Turtle is sent to Key West to live with her Aunt Minnie for a few weeks while her mother tries to earn money for a new house. Though it’s hard, since they’re living in the 1930’s during the Great Depression. Turtle has to deal with her annoying cousins, and she has to take care of her grumpy grandma. Then she finds a treasure map! So, she and her cousins venture out to find it. The theme is learning to accept life.
I recommend this book because it is very heartfelt. Also, because the author wrote it in an amazing way that feels as if you’re watching a movie. Jennifer Holm has has written many other books, such as the “Boston Jane Trilogy” and “The BabyMouse” series. This book gives you an insight on how the 1930’s were like! Well, that’s it for now! See you later, “On the good ship lollipop!”
