While war rages on,they build an underground city to ensure that humans do not go extinct.Lina Mayfleet twelve,is about to pick her job out of a hat. She draws pipeworks laborer. Her use-to-be friend Doon, draws messenger the job she wanted.

Doon is angry that he draws messenger. Lina is perplexed that he is angry ; while she stuck even farther underground. But surprisingly they trade jobs! But one day she comes home and finds a ripped up document ,while the lights as everyone predicts will soon be out. Lina asks many people about the meaning of the document. Then finally she asks Doon. They both think it’s a way out of the city. But the question is how will they get out? And will they get out?

They work together to interpret the document. But they also get into some trouble with the mayors guard. They are on the run. So will they get out? And will they be able to tell the others to get out?
