DOL, because we forgot on Thursday.
Final presentations
In-class writing response: Which group do you think we could help the most and have the most fun supporting? Why? Be as specific as you can be, referring to information from the student’s presentation. If you can see a way that we could connect one group to another, or a way to work in a few smaller groups, share it. Remember that the goal is to accomplish something that we ALL work on a little bit.
Hand that in, and I’ll read them over and get a sense of our ideas for tomorrow.

Friday, Sept. 7: Themes Syllabus for Friday, Sept. 7
Opening activity: assigning vocab words, reviewing the square. This should be finished by the end of class on Monday.
Expectations writing prompt. 30 mins!
Think of a time that someone expected something from you, or had high expectations for you. How did that expectation make you feel? Did it have a positive or a negative effect on you? Did you live up to the expectation, or not? Why?
Pointers for writing:
--plan a little first: big or small. Just write a little bit.
--Don’t edit. Just write.
--Once you’ve got the bones down, then you can go back and edit. Printing out a draft and then editing on it in pen is FINE.
--Remember, you’re sharing a story with me. Make it interesting!
Project work:
You should be through step 2 and heading to steps three and four.
Other: If you can’t do anything else, work on your vocab square. Try Merriam-Webster.com as a good on-line dictionary.

Wed., Sept. 5: Let's do some reading.
Hilda wasn’t coming. He was sure of that now as he rocked on the porch in the muggy Florida air.
"Hilda isn’t coming," he whispered.
He whistled in the dark, then rocked himself to sleep.
He was dreaming of Hilda when she hit, flattening his house and roaring through town at 180 miles per hour.
