Monday, Feb. 7: HI!
--Who Am I? projects should be finished by end of class today. If not, you'll have to finish them on your own time.
--Vocab work: you'll be assigned a work to complete a vocab sheet for. Once you get a basic definition, you can get more in-depth at either of these two sites: here or here. We'll use these terms to discuss the stories that you'll be reading over the next week or so, so you should focus on the definition that has to do with reading, books, writing, etc.
--Reading: we'll read "The Dinner Party" by Mona Gardner together. It's another super short story, and we'll talk about the aspects of it on Tuesday.
--You may read, you might be able to take your lexile test with Ms. Smith, you may finish your Who Am I? project, OR you can start working on the reading options so you can finish this unit quickly.
Tuesday, Feb. 8--Thursday, Feb. 10
--Share vocab.
--Discuss "The Dinner Party", identifying the elements from our vocab.
--Story #3 - #5: you'll have a lot of choices. I'll recommend ones, and I'll read one (probably "Thank You, M'am," "The House on Mango Street," and "The Sniper,") aloud per day.
Once you've read the stories of your choice, you need to work to identify the literary elements on your own. Finally, you'll pick one story as the best one you've read. . . and write a letter to the author to explain why you think it's so good. That letter we'll work on till about Tuesday of next week. . . the week before vacation!!!!
Friday, Feb. 11
--Quiz over literary elements--match the definitions, then read a really short story and identify what's going on.
--Work on author letter, OR maybe do a logic puzzle or play a game--a real one, not an on-line one!
Monday, Feb. 14: Awwww! Valentine's Day!
--Work on author letter about your chosen story. Aim for one strong first draft, hand it in to me for an edit, and then a strong second draft.
Are we having fun yet?
