Sgt. James R. Worster of Broadview Heights, Ohio wanted to become a doctor after serving in the Army. His career choice was influenced by the death of his father, Richard Malcom, to hepatitis C in 2000. He enlisted in the Army in part because of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. James often spoke of helping children who had been shot and was glad he was there for them and comforted them. He moved with his family to Alaska when he was 7 years old. He attended Denali and Nordale elementary schools and North Pole middle and high schools, graduating in 2000. While in high school he got a summer national park intern even though he was told they usually don't hire interns that young and spent the summer between his sophomore and junior year working w ith personnel at Yellowstone National Park. Following graduation, Worster moved to Ohio to attend Cleveland State University where his fiancée, who graduated in 1999, was enrolled. The 9/11 terrorist attack changed Worster's plans and he enlisted in the Army. After basic training, he and Kusinski were married Oct. 13, 2002. They have a son, Trevor James who was the light of his life. he served as a field medic in a remote area during his first tour in 2003, returned stateside for 18 months before returning to the CASH unit in Baghdad, located in the Green Zone. Between tours, he was active in a Mustang club in Colorado. Three weeks before he was to return home from a second tour in Iraq, James died.
