Abstract
While this is my assumption, I believe many of you are aiming for independent roles at R1 universities if you are considering developing your career in the USA. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education breaks down academic institutions into several tiers, with one of the significant categories being Doctorate Universities. These are further categorized as Very High Research Activity (R1), High Research Activity (R2), and Doctoral/Professional University (previously known as R3). Given this opportunity to engage with you, I would like to share insights on pursuing an alternative academic career at an R2 university, based on my personal experience.
