Using AI tools to support our report writing is a great time saver. Here are some guidelines to follow to help you get the most out of your AI tool and also keep your students data safe. Whatever AI tool you use please remember to not use students names.
Gemini is a useful AI tool to use as it links to our education workplace account.
You need to be logged in on your school email. This gives you more data protection,
meaning you can add curriculum documents. Names should still not be used.
Gemini Gems allow you to set up a space for writing different reports statements which saves and can be revisited.
Here is an example of AI workflow when you are creating reports.
Prompt: Can you please extract the SKILLS only from this document and organise them under each Strands eg comprehension, handwriting etc
Prompt: Please don't paraphrase but have exactly as worded in the original document
Prompt: Now can you please re-word each of these skills into a present tense statement of achievement eg uses
Prompt: Now can you please replace each bullet with a hyphen and have no space between the hyphen and the first word of each statement
AI often uses these long dashes as substitutions for other punctuation.
Semi colons are used less frequently in informal writing so AI tools do not see them as often making it unsure how to use them. It would rather stick to simple punctuation. This can often make AI text formulaic or stilted to read.
As different AI programs gather responses from many sources it can sometimes become confused and add irregular spaces. Remember you can add formatting rules to your prompt to avoid errors.
AI tools often create sentences of a similar length making passages seem formulaic. They use patterns to predict sentences which can also make passages read very similarly.
It finds relevant words and phrases for your document and then will repeat them often.
AI written work can feel generic as it pulls it's ideas from the most frequently seen examples of writing. Please take time to add personal examples into reports and add your own teacher voice.
