The Story

The Story

When God speaks to us, it is rarely with an audible voice, or even a list of expectations or requirements or requests, but often in the form of stories.  Stories communicate more than verbal requests, or written requirement, but something that is lived, experienced, and shared.  Stories.

Should we be surprised then to discover that the most powerful message that God has sought to share with us, comes to us in the form of a story.  Not all stories have to have actually happened to communicate this wisdom, but this one did.  This rich and meaningful story, truly the greatest story ever told, is rooted both in history and reality, is one that has been told, and retold over and over again -- and as a result, lives have been changed, and continue to be.

This morning, Pastor Aren explores with us once again this story in the context of our own stories. He reminds us that the resurrection story assures us that there is more to our stories than we we may be able to see on the surface.  In fact, it reminds us that our stories are not just isolated parallel stories, but ones that are lived out in the context of the bigger story that we too are a part of.   It is a story that reminds us that all stories are included.  And perhaps most importantly, as the story unfolds we get an amazing glimpse of the Author of the story.

This is what Pastor Aren invites us to consider this morning.  If you would like to listen to the sermon again, or perhaps for the first time, you can access our sermon library here.  If you would prefer, you can access the livestream version of the entire service here.

1 Peter 1

NIV

12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
