Get in the Game
Matthew 28:16-20 (TNIV)
Questions for Further Reflection
As Pastor Dustin pointed out in his sermon, the tense of the verb in verse 19 is such that a more literal reading would be "in your going" or perhaps "as you go."
Take a moment or two to think about where the places are that you are already going in your life. How might you "go" in those places in such a way that people might be led to be disciples?
What is there about the "way that you go" that models for others what it means to be a disciple?
The word "baptize" in verse 19 literally means to immerse. God's name represents God's character, it is not just what God is called. What then might it mean to "go" in such a way that people are "immersed" in Who God is?
The view from the stands is quite different from the view on the field. Not that there is not a lot of excitement in the stands. Not that there are a lot of people in the stands. Not that there is not a lot of food and fellowship in the stands. But that is not where the game is played.
This week, Pastor Dustin continues in our two sermon series on the church, exploring with us what it means to get out of the seats and into the game.
If you would like to listen to the sermon again (or perhaps for the first time) you can find it in our sermon library by clicking here.
As you reflect on the game you are invited to participate in . . .
what positions do you feel most drawn to?
what are your own unique interests/gifts? How might they be used, not just in the stands, but in the game itself?
what holds you back from participating?
In what ways might you be hindering others from participating? Why is that?
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
