"Be" Thankful
Is there a difference between "doing" thankful and "being" thankful? Not that there is a problem with doing, but today the invitation is to reflect on being. There is a kind of doing that flows out of being that makes all the difference.
Take a few moments this morning to reflect on the passage from Colossians, and listen to what it invites us to be, and how that being might shape our doing. Do you sense the difference? Notice the words in bold . . . the ones in italics . . . and let them sink in. Do you notice anything that you might otherwise have missed by reading through it too quickly?
Notice the implications these verses have for your life as you slow down enough to listen to them carefully and thoughtfully, without rushing through them so you can get to the next thing you need to do, but rather to let the words sink in, and shape who we are, and transform how we go about doing what we do. Take some time just to "be" thankful. When we do this, we don't have to worry about what we might "do" because what we do will flow out from who we are, and who we are becoming. "Be Thankful."

Colossians 3:15
(NIV)
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
