Going in Grace

Going in GraceWhat does it mean to "go."  If you google the phrase "going in grace" you will find lots of reference to dying.  You will also find lots of references to your hair turning gray.  You would think that "going in grace" is all about coping with loss, rather than embracing a gift that enriches how we live.  What if going with grace is more about how we embrace what we receive as a way of living, rather than simply a means to deal with loss, well, gracefully?

When we listen to the stories of scripture, particularly those concerning the life of Jesus, we frequently find examples of what it means to live out of grace.  In the sermon, Pastor Jon explores a few of these, including the stories of disciples fishing, and Jesus sharing a large catch that was less dependent on their fishing skills, on more on His graciousness.  He explores the exodus story, noticing the graciousness of God in reaching out to and redeeming His people, and then continues to notice this theme as it unfolds through the messages of the prophets.  All of which lays the foundation for the great commission that Jesus entrusts to us, and the invitation to go in grace and be among others graciously.

Matthew 28:16-20

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore in your going [going in grace] make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

John 1:14

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
