I Miss You, Class 2-1!

Hi All!  I hope this finds you all doing well.  As the days of "school at home" continue, we will be trying new things to help make your learning time more productive.  Stay tuned for what's to come...  Here is today's work.

1.  ELA - Today I would like you to think about how illustrations can help to support a text.  Illustrations can sometimes help us to better understand the events or characters in a story.  Reread pages 62 and 63 of "A Chair for My Mother" and answer the following questions on looseleaf or in a notebook.  How does the illustration support the taste on page 63.  Do you think the story would be the same without the illustrations?  Why or why not?  Use examples from the text to support your answer.

2.  Phonics - This week we will be introduced to the Long u sound.  It can be made with the letters u and u_e and the vowel teams ew, ue, and iew.  Find a partner.  It can be a brother or sister, a parent, or any other person you are working with today.  Read the words and sentences on page 163 of your phonics book to your partner.  Sound out any words you do not know.

3.  Spelling - Write each of these words three times and use each in sentence.

cube        cute        few        fume        human

4.  Math - Practice three digit subtraction with regrouping by doing the attached math sheet.

5.  Religion - Yesterday was the fourth Sunday of Lent.  Remember, during Lent we should be doing works of service, fasting, and prayer.  Complete the Lent sheet and think about some things that you can do during Lent to get closer to God.  Then read the sheet about priests and deacons.  Do the activity on the bottom of the page.

6.  Science/ELA/Art - Scholastic is offering students some remote learning resources that are both fun and educational.  This week we will be working on a Science unit.  I am asking you to complete all of the activities in the unit over the span of one week.  There are stories, videos, and activities.  Follow this link

https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome/grades-1-2.html Once there go to the Day 1 - Animal Studies - Spiders unit.  When you choose "Take Me There" you will be directed to a site called "BookFlix" where you can watch a story, read a book, and do some related on line activities.  When you return to the Animal studies page you will also see a video to watch, and a draw and write activity.  Try to complete all activities by Friday.

Just For Fun:  Our class has been working hard to become even better with our Math facts!  We have answered 2,832 Fact Practice questions so far this year, with 216 questions answered this past week - great job!  Twelve of our classmates went on to Freckle this week to answer those math questions.  Would't it be great if we could all go on to Freckle to practice math!  Let's try to make today that day.  Remember our class code is geeuh3.  Have fun!
