Classwork/Homework for Wednesday, March 18

Post date: Mar 18, 2020 1:7:54 PM

I see that some of you have gone on to Freckle and Raz-Kids to do some of the "Just for Fun" activities.  Good work Amy, Lucas, Guiliana and William on Freckle!  Abigail, Guiliana, Rick and Joey - I hope you enjoyed reading "The Leprechaun Trap".  Keep up the good work.

Here is today's assignment.

1.  ELA - Today we will be working on Making Inferences  Making an inference means figuring out something that the author doesn't actually say.  You can use clues that are in the text and things from your own mind.  Sometimes it's called "reading between the lines".  Look back first at page 55 and then at page 63 of "A Chair for My Mother" to answer the first two questions on page 1 of the reading comprehension packet.

Review the vocabulary words for "A Chair for My Mother".  I've attached the list for you to review since most of your ELA notebooks are in school.

2.  Spelling - Today's words are our High Frequency Words.  You may see these words often when you read and will use them often when you write.  Write each word three times and use each in a sentence.

                why        because        could        eat        you

3.  Math - Today we will begin the second half of Chapter 6 and we will be working on three digit subtraction with regrouping.  Here's a little video to explain a bit about three digit subtraction with regrouping in the tens place.  Please watch the video and then do pages 306 to 308 in your big math book.  You do not have to draw the quick pictures when you subtract in your math book.  (Please note:  we are skipping some pages so be sure to do the correct pages.)

4.  Religion - Read pages 188 and 189.  Here is a list of some people you may see when you go to mass:  the priest, a deacon, altar servers, a reader, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. Copy the list on to a piece of paper or in your notebook and write next to each what that person does to help celebrate the mass.

Just for Fun:  Do you remember the author and illustrator Mo Willems that we learned about back in September in our Scholastic News?

He drew the characters Pigeon, Elephant and Piggie.  Well, he is doing a program at the Kennedy Center and is offering children a chance to join him on line for a daily "Lunch Doodle".  The series began on Monday and today will be the third session.  You can go to the following website to check out what its all about and to see the first two sessions. Then if you enjoy it you can return daily to have fun with Mo Willems.  Mo Willems Is Hosting a Livestream Doodle Every Week
