Classwork/Homework - March 30

Post date: Mar 30, 2020 3:28:37 AM

Later today you will be receiving an email from me with information about some new programs that we will be using for remote learning.  Please try to log in to each of these programs and set up accounts where necessary.  Thank you!  Here is today's work:

1.  ELA - Log into our reading program, ReadyGen, on Pearson Realize.  There will be an assignment there to view a video about the reading skill "Compare and Contrast".  After viewing the video, use the sheet you did on Friday (where you wrote about the characters and events of the two stories we've read) to think about the plots of each story.  The plot is just events that help to tell the whole story.  Then complete the compare and contrast graphic organizer attached to compare the plots of "Alexander, Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday" and "A Chair for My Mother".

2.  Phonics - This week we will be looking at words that end with a consonant plus the letters le.  These three letters will form the last syllable of the word.  With a partner, read the words and sentences on page 173 of your phonics book Sound out any words you do not know.  Since there is no written work and you do not need to print this sheet you can follow these directions to open up the page and read the words on your computer or iPad.

If you do not have your book, use this link to get to the Sadlier Connect Log-in page  Academic E-books Log-in

The user name is:  SadlierStudent

The password is:  ReadyToLearn!  (it is case sensitive)

Once you enter the site you will see rows of books.  Find our book on the bookshelf

and click on it.  (It's in the fifth row) When it opens go to Unit 3, Lesson 17, Introduction to view the page.

3.  Spelling - Write each word three times and use each in a sentence.

            apple        beetle        bugle        eagle        giggle

4.  Religion - Read pages 202 and 203.  Then fill out the Religion sheet attached.  Write a prayer to pray for the needs of the people of the world.   You may color the sheet after you write the prayer if you'd like.

5.  Math - Today we are doing a very hard lesson, but I know what good math students you are, so with practice, you will be able to do this skill very soon!  We will be doing three digit subtraction with a zero in the number we are subtracting from.  Watch this video

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Guawxook8Ls

and then do pages 318 to 320.

6.  ELA/Science - This week we will be working on another Scholastic Science unit.  There are once again stories, videos, and activities.  Follow this link

https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome/grades-1-2.html Once there go to the Week One, Day 2  - Earth Science - Weather unit.  When you choose "Take Me There" you will be directed to a site called "BookFlix" where you can watch a story, read a book, and do some related on line activities.  When you return to the Earth Science page you will also see a video to watch, and a draw and write activity.  Try to complete all activities by Thursday.

Just For Fun:  Today is Monday and if you were in school it would be gym day.  Be sure to have some physical activity today.  There are some fun exercise videos for children.  Here is just one of them from a class of second graders just like you ... Can you find others?
