ICE: an experience like no other

At last, the long year of learning about Canadian history, sustainable communities, and Canadian Politics has come to an end. As an ICE student, I have learned that if I be creative with my schoolwork that I can learn to enjoy it more than I would have. As a person, I have found out how important these ICE lessons are and how much they apply to my life as a member of the Toronto Community, and a Canadian. Also, the units where we talked about Canada's character have showed me how lucky we are to live in Canada compared to other countries and it is was also interesting and educating to look into Canada's past and see how we got to the state that we are in now which I think is really important for all Canadians.

Going around my Neighborhood and looking into the different places that form the Annex really changed my character by making me more observant to the people and places that are so close to me but I had not acknowledged until now. This is another reason that I like the ICE community so much, we not only get to experience studying Toronto but around each individual students location which makes the ICE experience different from other courses so I think it's great that this is what it means to be an ICE Student. Looking into my Dad's immigration experience was very interesting and I learned how part Canada's character is International recognition and my Dad's immigration was a very big part of that. This also gave me great insight on what it means to be a Canadian. My other experience is going winter Camping. This entire trip made me better as a person by teaching me about my worldview and about being aware of my personality traits. This was a great experience to learn these things and it was also fun to build and sleep in quinzees (quinzees are like snow houses) with my friends and spend time in the wilderness and at a winter camp.

I'm relieved that it's the end of the year for school and I'm ready to enjoy my summer but at the same time, I'm sad that we will never get to enjoy the ICE Experience again but hopefully we have similar courses in the future at The York School.
