Owen Moorhead

This ice year has taught me many things about myself. Whether it's about me as a person, a student, or a Canadian. Through the many trips, some of which not as fun and the countless hours spent in that ice room many experiences showed me more about myself.

During one trip we had one trip to Pinecrest camp to go winter camping. I was definitely not very excited for this trip and I’m not going lie it didn’t pass my expectations however it taught me some very important things about myself. For the first section of the trip, we stayed away from camp and slept in tents. For this section of the trip, I was always extremely cold and my fingers felt like they were falling off. On the third morning, we went back to the camp. The first thing I did was take a shower, change, and brush my teeth. As I was sleeping in a warm bed I realized how lucky I was for the things I took for granted. This trip showed me to be thankful for what I have.

There have been a few times where this year where many projects have piled up on me and I thought I would be unable to complete all of them. I worked on these all night for a couple of days and was able to complete them but it showed me how important time management is and starting your work early. This divides the work and relieves a lot of stress and I will make sure to do this more as I continue receiving more work.

Ice taught me many things about being Canadian. Whether that's politically or even understanding what happens in other places In Canada and the history behind it, for example, aboriginal people and residential schools. It taught me how to be an active citizen and I will make sure to remember this as I get older especially as I grow of age to vote.

Ice has been a challenge throughout this year but It showed me many things and helped me a lot in growing as a person.
