When we were younger
Laughter and fun warmed the air
Like heat from a Summer sun
Brighter than our fears, it was our whole world
Like Magic, our memories of youth
Glow brighter than stars
But then
We grow up and forget
Summer was brief
And Autumn came
With the wind’s whispers of change
Carrying the promises of tomorrow
In the blink of an eye
The colors of flame disappear
Like a windblown candle
Overpowered by an unstoppable force
Cold became colder
And days barely filled with light
Seemed to tell us
We aren’t kids anymore
Gone are the rose gold sparks
Replaced by the shimmering white
Of a new world
With limits and dead ends
But Winter never lasts forever
Because the blossoms and beginnings
Of Spring
Let us remember a world before the ice
