UVPD AMBER ALERT – UAA
Do NOT activate an Amber Alert unless the following criteria are met.
SI: AMBER ALERT
It is believed to be a child abduction.
The child is 17 years of age or younger.
There is reason to believe the victim is in imminent danger, serious bodily injury or death.
The information sent to the public could assist in the safe recovery of the victim or apprehension of a suspect.
INITIATING AMBER ALERT: Dispatch will need a complete desc of the victim, suspect(s), and vehicle(s)
Notify the shift supervisor that an Amber Alert has been requested.
Amber Alert Activation must be made by the Chief or a Patrol Sergeant.
Add any additional information to the original call and re-broadcast the information via radio and the Spillman Alert system.
Ask the requesting officer for the name, phone number and address of the media and public contact point.
CALL BCI – AMBER ALERT LINE 801-503-5566- before Issuing Amber Alert
ENTER AMBER ALERT - Enter the information in NCIC as quickly as possible
Enter in UCJIS as a Utah Amber Alert “UAA”. Active from the drop-down box:
Agency name – Agency telephone number – Authorizing Administrator
Note: All fields (a-d) are mandatory to activate an Amber Alert.
MODIFYING AMBER ALERT: modify the UAA as more info becomes available.
Access UCJIS under “UAA” Utah Amber Alert. Select TYPE and activate the pull down menu to Modify, enter all appropriate updates.
Anytime the Amber Alert is modified, it will reactivate all teletypes/cellphones/pagers.
CANCELLATION OF AMBER ALERT:
Cancellation of the Amber Alert will be done at the initiating Officer's request.
Access UCJIS and Cancel Amber Alert “CAA”.
Contact BCI at 801-965-4446 to confirm that BCI has received the cancellation.
NLETS AMBER ALERT:
If there is a reason to believe the suspect and victim are traveling out of state - request BCI send an NLETS Amber Alert.
MEDIA COVERAGE:
BCI is the point of contact for the EAS System - The information that is entered to activate an alert will be the information used for the Alert System, media coverage, and the overhead signs from TOC. The alert will be sent out via teletype, cellphones, pagers, and email as soon as it is entered into the system. The information is immediately posted on the Amber Alert website at www.bci.utah.gov.
The following systems will be activated immediately following the entry of the Utah Amber Alert:
KSL will initiate the media Amber Alert of the EAS System.
TOC (Traffic Operations Center) will activate the VMS (Variable Message Signs) with the following information, “Child Abduction Alert.” The suspect and vehicle information will be on the second line followed by a note to, “Check local Radio” for additional information.
Once the alert has been activated all media contacts should be referred to the handling officer.
