UVU ATL BROADCASTS         

An Attempt to Locate (ATL), also known as a BOLO, are messages sent out to other law enforcement agencies regarding people or vehicles of interest.  Inside out county, these messages are sent via Spillman Mobile as alerts.  Regionally, or nationally, they are sent through UCJIS as BC Messages. 

There are two categories of ATL that are always broadcasted over the main radio:  Crimes in progress, and anything marked 10-0, or Officer Safety.  Dispatchers will make sure both of those things get broadcasted in their entirety even if the duty officers are already aware.

ATL’S that come through Mobile should be entered into Spillman with a UV-ATL nature code.  The address line should specify what the ATL is for, and the City Code is the Agency handling the detail, be sure to change the zone to UVPD so it is on our screen. 

Copy and Paste the body of the ATL into the comments section. Crimes in progress, and anything marked 10-0, or Officer Safety - Missing Persons and Stolen Vehicles only need to be broadcasted over the radio if they have occurred in an area close enough to UVU that it would be relevant. - otherwise you can say “All units copy ATL on your Mobile.”  Any non-relevant Missing Persons/Stolen Vehicles .delayed ATLs, or anything else deemed not urgent enough to broadcast > Once these calls have been entered, dispatch them to yourself, and clear them out. 

SENDING AN ATL THROUGH MOBILE - ATTEMPT TO LOCATE FORMAT 

 1. Create a new alert in mobile and send to all law enforcement agencies 

 2. Copy template below and fill in information 

 3. Change font size to 14 

 4. Do not change the color of the text except to highlight cautions in red only

Please proofread and Spellcheck your messages!!  Each message is pre-set to have a 15 minute expiration, change this to longer, if necessary.  Then hit “Send.
