Intro
When you hear the word “adventure,” what do you imagine? Whatever it was you imagined, I’d be willing to bet that it wasn’t a grammar class.
This project strives to bring adventure to the ESL grammar classroom in the form of a Dungeons-and-Dragons-inspired review activity. In an effort to “defeat the final exam,” students will travel to different real-world locations around campus. At each location, students will encounter a question that prompts them to use a grammar structure that they have studied, and the students must use their phones to email their answer to the instructor. If they use the grammar structure correctly in their answers, the instructor will respond with a clue that will allow them to progress in the story.
Which group of students will rise to the challenge, becoming the first to defeat the final exam? Only time (and grammar) will tell!
