Intro
This project aims to present a lesson plan on gender-inclusive language in Brazilian Portuguese in order to help language teachers to discuss this aspect in classes of Portuguese as a Foreign Language. Gender-inclusive language has been a controversial topic in Brazil as Portuguese does not have a neutral pronoun nor article. As a result, many groups do not feel represented when being called ‘ele’ or ‘ela’. It is believed that using inclusive language promotes gender equality, diversity, representation. Thus, the project tries to answer the following questions: how can we address this topic in language courses? How can it be incorporated into classes? What students should know? What is the best way to present the pronouns? The 60-minute lesson plan is a suggestion on how to cover the topic through reading and listening activities that use authentic resources in Portuguese.
