Drake equation
Drake equation
Audio Guide:
Are humans the only intelligent life in the universe? While the answer to this question is still uncertain, astronomers have devised various methods to estimate the question. The most well-known method is the Drake equation put forward by American astronomer Frank Drake in 1961. He included numerous factors to estimate the number of advanced civilizations possibly existing in the Milky Way, such as the number of stars similar to the Sun in the Milky way, the probability of the existence of planets, the number of planets in the circumstellar habitable zone, and the likelihood of the emergence and evolution of intelligent life and civilizations.
You can make your own estimation using the interactive multi-media demonstrations. Adjust different parameters to estimate the number of extraterrestrial civilizations and learn the significance of these parameters.
