Cepheid variables and eclipsing binary stars
Cepheid variables and eclipsing binary stars
Audio Guide:
A Cepheid variable is a pulsating variable star. Research shows that this type of star is not only highly luminous but also related to the light variation period. Astronomers thus use the light variation period to determine the star’s actual luminosity, and in turn, to estimate its distance. This method is often referred to as a “standard candle”.
An eclipsing binary is a binary star system composed of two stars orbiting around a common barycenter. Their orbiting pattern causes changes to their brightness, and the changes in luminosity are cyclical. Studying the mass, distance, and changes in the orbit tilt angle will allow us to understand more diverse types of eclipsing binaries. Take a closer look with the demonstrations on site.
Exhibit Introduction:
Animation videos and graphics panels are used to introduce Cepheid variables. The adjustment of relevant parameters is used to observe the situation of Eclipsing Binary Stars and use presentation to introduce them.
