Radio telescopes

Audio Guide:

Radio telescopes enable us to observe the radio waves emitted by planets, stars and galaxies. The observation of radio waves can be conducted at any time of the day and is not affected by the weather condition. However, because the wavelength of radio waves is very long, the diameter of a radio telescope needs to be large enough to achieve better resolution. It is also possible to use “interferometer” to observe one astronomical object with different radio telescopes. The signal data can be later combined to simulate the effect of a larger telescope and to enhance the resolution of the images.

Visitors can operate the interferometry model onsite to learn more about radio telescopes.

Exhibit Introduction:

Mechanical models are set for the visitors to operate radio telescope array and adjust the radius of the array. Audios are provided to introduce to radio telescopes.
