Space telescopes

Audio Guide:

The concept of the space telescope was put forth by American theoretical physicist Lyman Strong Spitzer, Jr. in 1946; but the idea was not realized until the 1990s. When observing on Earth, the air turbulence in the atmosphere will distort images of astronomical objects. Moreover, the atmosphere will also absorb most of the electromagnetic waves, rendering it impossible to observe these waves. Therefore, we need to rely on the space telescope to conduct observation in space.

This multimedia film introduces different types of space telescopes.

Exhibit Introduction:

Several well-known space telescopes are on display. Their applied techniques and observation results and the crucial orbital position, Lagrangian point, are also introduced.
