Distance to a star

Audio Guide:

“Annual parallax” is one of the methods to measure the distance of a star. It refers to the observation of one singular star from two opposites of Earth’s orbit and makes use of the slight difference, called “parallax” caused by the star’s position. Parallax is related to the star’s distance; the farther the star, the smaller the parallax. Based on this principle, we can measure the distance of a star.

Visitors can push the button to trigger the model, which will demonstrate the principle of annual parallax.

Exhibit Introduction:

The parallax method is used to measure the distance between the earth and stars nearby. The visitors can operate the exhibits to experience the way astronomers measure the distance of the stars.
