Craters

Audio Guide:

Generally, meteoroids weighing less than one gram will burn up when they enter Earth’s atmosphere. However, larger meteoroids may not burn up completely and leave behind debris that fall on Earth to become meteorites. Each year around 1,000 tons of meteorites crash onto Earth’s surface at a dashing speed of several dozen kilometers per second and create a round or oval impact crater. If they crash into the ocean, meteorites may even trigger huge tsunamis.

Exhibit Introduction:

The mechanical interactive device displays the craters after crashed by meteorites and the graphic panels introduce some famous craters.
