You are going to research, sketch, then build a water powered rocket. The goal is to launch it as high as possible and have a chute deploy at peak height to let it descend safely keeping the egg inside intact.
In order to have a successful project build and launch, we first need to understand how a water bottle rocket works, and what are some keys to making it fly straight and predictable.
Create a new document titled "Bottle Rocket Report". When you are done there will be a couple of pages with sections titled:
research
design
construction
results
summary
write a few paragraphs explaining how a bottle rocket works
include an explanation of the physics, and forces involved
give some examples of rockets we see in the news or historical use of rockets ( fireworks, space shuttles, or satellite launching rockets)
list at least 3 websites or youtube video's you gathered some of your information
There are many factors to consider for your rocket's design. First you must understand the objective of this assignment is to launch your rocket successfully (hopefully high and far) and have it carry an egg on board. The egg will need to land safely back on earth, unbroken. As we discussed in class, it's important to choose materials for your rockets components that will last more than one launch and withstand some water and crash landings.
Key factors to consider:
-Aerodynamics to eliminate drag
-stabilizing fins will help guide your rocket straight to a high altitude
-Crumple zone and egg protection
-Parachute ( how will it deploy ?)
-if your rocket crashes, will the fins break off?
-Safety !! ( do not make a nose cone or fins that could cause harm if the rocket is directed toward people)
Draft your rocket design using pencil and paper. Get a SKETCH and an ELEVATION for the rocket (this drawing must be done in a professional manner and include labels and measurements and will be included in the final report
Construction of the rocket should include testing cycles. You should always be aware of standard workplace safety habits
After you have tested and launched your bottle rocket, complete your report on the process from start to finish. It should explain your thoughts on the design process, the construction phase, and egg protection strategy, your results.
Key ideas to have in the report:
Building process (did you struggle to get started?, was it fun? did you learn something new?
What factors came into play that helped or did not help your project?
Your design, (how did you design to protect the egg?, how many fins?, parachute?
The launch (how did your rocket perform?, was the egg protected? How high did your rocket go?
What did you learn during this project, and what would you do differently if you did this assignment again?
