Overview | Proposal | EvaluationÂ
Your "Summative Project" is intended to give you an opportunity to display ALL the skills you've acquired over the semester and thus is individual work unless you're working on option (A). Option A MAY have a production team of up to 2 individuals but they must create their own storyboards and edit their own final products. That is to say, they can share the filming responsibilities and the clips that result from it. All work is to be done independently in an original Communications Technology product. Think of it as a product-driven "final exam" that reviews all aspects of the course, but is open book, and lasts about three weeks instead of a couple of hours. Don't recycle old work - create ALL NEW components that build what you've learned to date. Your summative project should clearly demonstrate your skill in:
The Design Process
Photoshop
Typographic Design & the Design Principles
3D Modeling & Animation
Video Production, Including
STORYBOARDING
SOUND
TITLING
This project is should exhibit the full range and depth of skills you've acquired from the course
This project MUST be feasible and completed given the time constraints and limited resources of the lab
A) MOVIE TRAILER (video production with minor graphic-design/animation)
Your task is to Plan, Produce and Edit a movie trailer for an existing movie
You may work in a production team of MAXIMUM 2.
You must plan and storyboard a trailer to a movie that exists already. You must select ideas from that film, take stills, shoot footage and record audio so that your trailer is a believable facsimile of what the trailer for that film MIGHT look like. Your final project should be exactly 30 seconds long and include graphics made in Photoshop, animation made in Blender or Flash (think intro credits, or bumpers or logos) and live video shot in or around the classroom. Production teams shall include no more than 2 students. Suggested content could include:
Photoshop (minimal contribution to final product)
Titles, Illustrations, Prepared digital photos
Blender/Stop Motion/Flash (minimal contribution to final product)
A short animated Production Logo or bumper that goes into the film or on the film)
Video & Audio
Original footage shot on site, in or around the classroom
edited with tasteful transitions and graphics
inclusion and/or editing of audio content from either online libraries, or recorded/edited on-site
B) ANIMATION (animation with minor graphic-design/video production)
Your task is to Plan, Produce and Edit a movie trailer for an existing movie
You must plan and storyboard a 30s long animated movie trailer. This is a complete production that includes a storyboarded idea as well as:
Photoshop
Titles, Illustrations, digital photos
Blender
the animation
Video & Audio
exported animated content combined with titles, transitions and audio assembled in a video editor
Once the animation portion is complete, the project is to be brought into Premiere and you are to include all relevant voiceover/soundtrack events and render the movie as such afterwards.
C) AD CAMPAIGN (photography/graphic design with a minor in animation/video production)
Your task is to Plan and Produce an ad-campaign for a product
You must plan and storyboard an ad campaign for a product that DOES NOT EXIST. Your final project will be the promotional material shot with cameras, and presented as a 11x17" Photoshop (poster) and a short 10s instagram-style video (that includes both dSLR filming as well as animation).
To submit:
Graphic design/photography ad campaign (poster) - most of the value is placed here
Animation and/or video
A short 10s ad for web shot with minimal post-production needed - lesser value is placed here
At the end of post-production, no matter which option you took, you MUST create a google docs for submission that has the following information:
How you'd change what you did if you had to do it again
Include with it something like this logsheet with what you did and roughly how long it took
