Romans 8:28-39
More Than Conquerors
28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
31What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
St. Paul in these verses tell us about God's love for us...God's providence is everywhere...He is Almighty...He teaches us that in all things (not just some or a few) God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose... For God, who knows all things, predestined and sent our LORD Jesus Christ, His Son to us and for us...
God sent Jesus to teach us...Jesus is our example...Those who He sent to follow Jesus were predestined...God knows and knew who would follow Jesus and knew who would betray Him...He knew who would oppose Jesus...Although we have free will, God can bring all of us to the final destiny He wants...Paul is telling us our destiny is preset, even though we have free choice...The Saints He called to Jesus, He justified them...And those He justified He glorified...
Paul asks us if God is for us, who can be against us?...Nothing can defeat love...After all if we love Him, He is working good in our lives...He knows our past, present, and future since He is not confined by time...He loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for us all...
We face troubles, hardships, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, and death all of our lives...But He sent us help and hope through His Son...
God created the world, both the heavens and earth...The world and universe are infinite...But even though He is the creator or all things, He looks to help us...We must not forget He also created each one of us...We sinned and turned against Him...He looks to help us, because He loves us...His help was sending Jesus who died for our sins...Jesus died for us...We often think we are powerful...But as Isaiah says we are mere grasshoppers when we compare ourselves to Him...He is all knowing...He is infinite...Yet, through all these things He works for our good, if we love Him...
We can be more than conquerors, if we can think beyond the physical and have faith in Him...God is love and He created us...He wants our lives to be good...He is our Father...He wants us to be more like His Son...This LOVE has convinced St. Paul that neither life nor death, neither angels or demons, neither the present or the future, nor any other powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love that God has for us, that is in Jesus Christ our LORD...Since God is pure Light, a pure energy of Love nothing can separate us from Him...How could it?...
