Romans 6:1-14
Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
1What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
11In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. 14For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
St. Paul teaches us that through our first father, Adam we will have death (Romans 5:12)...Sin entered through him, when he ate the forbidden fruit...St. Paul tells us the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God sending us His Son is eternal life (Romans 6:23)...
Man from the beginning rebelled from God with our sin...We could not get out from the struggles of sin (Romans 7)...God sent us our Greatest Gift...This Gift that God sent us, was His only Son...God sent His Son to die for our sins, which we just cannot keep from doing...We sometimes forget, His Son was fully Human...He lived and breathed on earth...He was a man...God sent us to observe Him, when He was on earth...We are to read about Him, to learn from Him, but very importantly to be like Him...Man is made in God's image, but I think Jesus is the best reflection of His image...Jesus, fully Human, represents our humanity...He is how we should be and can be and will be some day...Some day we will be sinless, because Jesus takes away our sins, after our death...So although we die in Adam, we are alive in Christ, because He was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father...By His resurrection, we too may have a new life...After we die we will no longer be slaves to sin -because anyone who has died has been freed from sin...Since He was resurrected by His Father and taught His disciples for forty more days, death no longer has a mastery over Him, because He still lives...
So from His humanity, we must learn...We must learn to be like Him, like little Christ's, like the Saints that followed His ways and His teachings...Through our belief and faith in Jesus, then one day let us hope and pray we hear what He told His Son, when He was on earth...A voice came from heaven and said, "this is My Son, whom I love; with Him I AM well pleased." (Matthew 3:17)...
