Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Jesus teaches us that His Father is always working and He is always working too...God keeps the sun rising, the sun setting and the whole universe fine tuned for His children...Jesus too, is always working...Jesus claims that since God is His Father, He has the authority and the claims to do as His Father does...
Jesus had a job or work to do when He came to earth, and work He had to finish...We can learn from what He did...Jesus did come to teach us, to die, to resurrect, and to ascend to heaven...But He came for many other reasons...He came to show us that man falls short of God and we sin...He came to help and to save sinners....And He would die for our sins...He came to teach us about the Kingdom of Heaven...The Kingdom where His Father is from...We have learned more about the Kingdom of God from Him, than from all other men and women put together...Jesus came to teach His disciples that they must spread His gospel...Jesus was to give His disciples the very words of God, so they would know and believe that God had sent Him...His disciples were to spread His work and His word...This was their Great Commission when He left them...
By knowing what Jesus' work at least partially encompassed, when He came to earth, it helps us in a sense, as we reflect on His teachings and His work...The original Twelve now have long passed away...Other disciples of His and those who were taught by these Twelve and an Apostle named Paul taught others, so His word would not die...We are two thousand years now removed from the physical Jesus and the physical original Twelve disciples -who were eyewitnesses of His Majesty...His teachings must be continued or they might not get taught, and transferred to the next generation...It maybe our very purpose of life to continue His work and His teachings of the Kingdom of Heaven that others may no about Him...Children are always the last generation to know Him...And much of what, especially young children learn is from their elders who they watch and sponge much of their learning process off of...Children must be eventually taught His words and teachings and those special things about Him for the gospel to help continue these great things and His Great Commission to the end of the ages...
The world seems smaller than it did when He walked the earth, and now the world seems more interconnected and global...Information gets out so quickly, and because of this we are bombarded and overburdened with many things that just keep us busy with data and information, we might not even want or use...I actually believe that all the data and information in the world today at times can be an obstacle for His word...I say that knowing that the newest technologies give us more and more information, but is this important to mankind...We have to look through computers, cell phones, tablets, netbooks, smartphones sometimes just to find Him...His word is of the utmost importance...His word must continue...His work must continue...Everyone needs to be saved...
