They are the "tools" (thoughts, actions, and aids) that people use to learn and remember information and accomplish tasks more effectively and efficiently in school as well as in non-academic settings.
These are things like:
Mentally retracing your steps when you lose something to see when you last had it;
Creating a song to help remember the names of body parts for a test;
Breaking tasks in a project down into smaller pieces and scheduling them;
Using a calendar and phone alarm to manage your time;
Using an audio reader to listen to an article while reading it;
Using an app to make study cards and quizzes.
For example, you might use the name Roy G Biv to remember the colors and their order in rainbows.
