The Rules of Techniques
One thing that sets characters apart in the world of One Piece appears most often in the form of techniques.
This section provides the rules for using, as well as creating, techniques. All characters are able to use techniques that they are eligible for and even monsters are capable of using them in unique ways. Regardless of its source, all techniques follow the rules here.
What is a Technique?
A Technique is a skill that shows off a character's particular caliber and allows them to affect not only their own martial abilities, but also the world around them, appearing almost magical in nature.
Techniques can be versatile tools, weapons, or protective wards. They can deal damage or undo it, impose or remove conditions, drain life energy away, and even restore life to the dead.
Thousands of techniques have existed throughout the world for centuries. Some have been passed down over generations, others forged and built through tenacity and constant practice. One may even find techniques written into ancient poneglyphs.
Technique Level
Every technique has a rank from Basic to Laugh Tale. A technique's rank is indicative of how powerful it is. Simple techniques are just that, simple but powerful techniques characters know by habitual repetition, and sit at the Basic rank. The higher a technique's rank, the higher the user's level must be to activate it.
Technique rank and character level don't correspond directly. Refer to your class table to discern which rank of technique you have access to in regards to your character level.
Maximum Number of Techniques Learned
To maintain balance and encourage mastery, each character has a limit on the total number of techniques they can learn. This limit ensures that characters specialize and perfect their chosen techniques rather than spreading themselves too thin.
The formula for the maximum number of techniques a character can learn is:
Maximum Techniques Learned: Character Level + Proficiency Bonus
This limit reflects the time and dedication required to master each technique, emphasizing quality over quantity in a character's arsenal of abilities.
