A highly intelligent sea creature that has devoted themselves to the study of martial arts. So much so that they follow a strict code of honor. Once defeated they devote themselves to training under the person that defeated them.
Ability Score: +2 STR or DEX, +1 WIS
Size: Small
Speed: 25ft land, 40ft swim
Code of Honor: You are a devoted disciple training under the orders of someone who previously bested you. Determine who your master is when you choose this race and choose the applicable Code of Honor focus. If you are defeated by a different creature you can change your benefit during a Long Rest to match that of the person who beat you.
Power: You follow a master that puts strength above all else. You've learned to emulate these features once per short rest you can increase the Save DC of a Special Or Brawl technique by 1, or increase the amount of damage die it deals by one die.
Patience: Your master is wise and patient. They wait before they strike allowing for the perfect opening. You gain a 1d4 bonus to Insight and Perception checks.
Speed: Your master focuses purely on speed. You gain +5 to your movement speeds and once per short rest as a reaction after taking damage, you can move up to half your movement speed without provoking attacks of opportunity.
Free Gong: You have yet to be bested. Once per turn as a Free Action you can change your Weapon or Brawl stance. After you have fallen unconscious or been beaten by another creature you must change to one of the other Codes.
Broken Code: You have shrugged off the Code that other gongs etch on their hearts for one reason or another. Twice per Long Rest you can choose to make a Saving Throw at advantage you must declare this before you know the result of the roll.
Kung-Fu Training: Due to your devoted training, your hands and feet are weapons in their own right. Your unarmed damage die becomes a d6. At 5th level a number of times equal to half your proficiency bonus you can use your Bonus Action to gain 1d4 to your attack or damage rolls on your turn. The bonus choice must be specified when you use this feature.
Shelled: Your thick shell provides you some protection against enemy attacks. You gain a +1 to AC.
Animal Speech: Your ability to speak is hard to translate for those unaccustomed to it. You gain a 1d4 penalty when making persuasion checks against those that cannot clearly understand you. But you are able to communicate simple ideas and thoughts to animals and creatures you encounter via speech or simple gestures.
