For Anne Gregory

   The poet has written this poem in the form of a conversation that takes place between the poet and the young girl, Anne Gregory. The young girl had beautiful honey-coloured hair. 

   The poet says that a person may show love towards her due to her beautiful hair and not otherwise. No one notices the basic nature and inner beauty of the girl. She feels that she can change the colour of her hair to black, brown, or red to the young man that true love does not exist in external beauty. For this, the poet concludes that only god can love us for our nature and ourselves.
