The story is from Nelson Mandela's autobiography, 'long Walk to Freedom'. He mentions the historic occasion of his inauguration as South Africa's first black president. Answer:The phrase " an extraordinary human disaster " expresses the practice of apartheid in South Africa. During the course, there was racial discrimination among people based on their skin colour. These people could not enjoy freedom, and the authorities mistreated Mandela himself.
The phrase "glorious human achievement" meant selecting the first black president for South Africa after many decades of white supremacy
What does Mandela thank the International leaders for?
Answer:Mandela thanked all the international leaders for witnessing the oath-taking ceremony. He felt extremely privileged to welcome them for having come far & wide, as it was not long ago when these leaders considered them outlaws. This event is a common victory for human dignity.

Answer:Mandela set the ideals of liberating the people of South Africa from the bondage of poverty, suffering, deprivation, gender and other discriminations. Now all could enjoy the right to freedom.

Answer:The whites were not aware of the lyrics as they had despised earlier, but on that day, when the blacks sang their anthem, the whites joined them after reciting their anthem at the beginning of the ceremony. It was a historic event.
How did Mandela describe the system of the government of South Africa before and after?
Answer:The whites of South Africa erected a government system of domination against the blacks of South Africa. Therefore this was the harshest & inhumane in the world.
In the final decade of the 20th century, the previous system of government was overturned forever and was replaced by one which has rights and freedom equally regardless of their cover.
What does courage mean to Mandela?
Answer:According to Mandela, courage was not the absence of fear but the triumph over it. The brave man is he who does not feel afraid but who conquers fear.
Which does he think is natural, to love or to hate?
Answer:No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, background, or religion. People must learn to hate, and they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.
What "twin obligations" does Mandela mention?

2) Obligation to his people, his community & country.
He mentions that he couldn't fulfil these obligations because the South African blacks who attempted to live as human beings were punished & isolated from their families.

Answer:Like any other child, freedom meant being happy and leading an enjoyable life during childhood. When a young fellow becomes an adult, the fun activities of childhood or youth look transitory because all of these activities appear worthless from an adult perspective.
When a person learns to earn his livelihood, he understands the fundamental & honourable freedom within the society in which he lives.
Why did Mandela think the oppressor is not free?
Answer:An oppressor is a victim of hatred, locked behind the bars of prejudice of narrowmindedness. So, Mandela perceives that both the oppressor & the oppressed are robbed of humanity & peace of mind.
